Capital Special Vehicles are the pioneers for the automotive wheel chair accessibility industry, with the introduction of hydraulic hoists into large buses, interstate coaches and many various vans for private and community use. Including the manufacture and fitting of new doors for dedicated entry of wheelchairs. Not only lifts, but also ramps were installed into low floor urban buses. This soon evolved into “low floor technology” for smaller vehicles such as our now renowned ACTIVAN.

Low floor technology is a break through for wheelchair occupants, as it enables them to have the best motoring experience, from ride quality and comfort, to the visibility and “normality” that only low floor vehicles can provide for the mobility challenged. This technology has also given many, the chance to drive again, (from their wheelchair) and provide them with the independence that before was not an option, but only a dream!

We at Capital Special Vehicles have experienced a strong growth in the wheelchair accessible vehicle market for the past 11 years, with conversions to small vans through to interstate coaches, as well as specialist application trailers for mobile libraries, breast screening units and special event semi trailers. For example, the “Olympic Ignite the Dream” and Olympic Torch relay Tours.

Capital Special Vehicles first introduced innovative Low Floor technology to further enhance wheelchair accessibility, advancing transportation options for the mobility challenged. The Capital ACTIVAN is the first low floor vehicle developed by Capital Special Vehicles in 1997, based on the Chrysler Voyager. Capital has exclusively promoted the ACTIVAN, extensively throughout Australia and New Zealand, with tours covering all major regional centers and cities, receiving positive and encouraging support from many satisfied customers. Some of which are enjoying total independence with our “self-drive” option (drive from the wheelchair).

Capital Special Vehicles then released the ACTIVAN TXL to the Victorian taxi industry, which was acknowledged as the “Australian taxi of the future.” This created an excellent launching pad for the ACTIVAN TXL, with sales soon expanding into New South Wales and Tasmania.

Low floor technology was then developed for the Holden Zafira Plus+ and with its ergonomically designed rear entry ramp, appearance and handling. It has been used extensively in NSW as a Taxi with glowing reports from both drivers and passengers.

With the development of the low floor wheelchair accessible, Renault Trafic Plus+. And with overwhelming support from Renault Australia, Capital Special Vehicles are proud to be recognized, and be the first inaugural member of the Renault Accord program.

And now with this alliance we are proud to introduce the all-new, and exciting Renault Kangoo Plus+, to further the independence of the mobility challenged.

Capital Special Vehicles are committed to bringing more exciting and innovative advances, with not only the ACTIVAN, Trafic Plus+, Kangoo Plus+ and Zafira Plus+ but many more vehicles in the near future. We are the leaders in design for the mobility challenged and look forward to giving clients the choice of vehicles that will not compromise: comfort, safety, reliability, versatility and style, providing “dignity” back into the motoring experience for the mobility challenged.
